Spring at Life Christian means baseball, track, and the
annual eighth grade trip to our nation's capital. For fourteen
years, our eighth graders have spent a week touring Jamestown,
Williamsburg, Gettysburg, and allthings in Washington D.C.
It is history out of the book. It is history in action.
This year's group leaves bright and early Saturday, April
21. Our first stop will be Virginia where we will explore
Jamestown, which is celebrating its 400th anniversary. Then
we will spend time checking out Willliamsburg with a tour
of the town and the governor's palace. After dinner we board
the bus and head to Washington D.C.
For the rest of the week, D.C. is our home base. The tour
takes us to memorials, museums, the Capitol and other government
buildings. We visit George Washington's home at Mt. Vernon
and see the quaint town of Alexandria with the narrowist
house! During the week we switch gears a bit and spend the
day at Gettysburg where the students get an on the battlefield
study of the Civil War and the men who sacrificed all for
what they belived was right.
Finally it is Friday, and we pack up our things and get
ready to head for home. It is the end of one of the best
week's the kids will have experienced in school. It is the
beginning of a new appreciation for history and a deeper
understanding of what it means to be an American.
All eighth graders at Life Christian study our nation's
history from colonization through the Civil War. So this
trip makes everything we do in the classroom come alive.
We travel with Christian Discoveries which is a subsidiary
of one of the largest student tour groups, World Strides.
Our tour leaders are informed and work well with kids. The
tour company handles many of the details such as our hotels,
transportation, meals, and entrance fees. In addition, because
the tour leaders our Christians, we get a special perspective
on the things we see and do.
Registration for the trip begins in the middle of May and
continues until the trip is full. Students need to have
an evaluation from teachers regarding their maturity for
such a trip as this, and the number of parents going is
limited as this trip is primarily for students. Registration
materials can be obtained from Mrs. Peasley after May 15.
A parent meeting will be scheduled for around that time
as well to answer any questions people may have regarding
the trip. An announcement will be mailed home to seventh
grade families.
